Achieving Excellence for Every Child, Every Day.

Respectful. Resilient. Resourceful.

British Values

At Unicorn Primary School, we believe that our values fully encompass what the government calls the 'British Values'. The Ofsted guidance 2014 requires schools to "ensure that the school promotes tolerance of and respect for people of all faiths (or those of no faith), cultures and lifestyles, and support and help, through their words, actions and influence within the school and more widely in the community, to prepare children and young people positively for life in modern Britain".

The government defines these values as:

  • Democracy
  • Rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths

We aim to nurture our children on their journey through life so they can grow into democratic, tolerant, responsible and respectful individuals who make a positive difference to British society and to the world. We would encourage our children to be creative and open-minded, respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world.

At Unicorn we take our responsibility seriously to prepare children for life in modern Britain. Embedded within school life are our school personal goals (respect, morality, enquiry, adaptability, communication, resilience, thoughtfulness, co-operation) and these, together with our school ethos, agreed rules and our wider curriculum all serve to thread the British Values throughout all that we do.
